Establishing the guiding principles for your business and clarifying your vision for its future. Getting the vision out of the leader’s head and onto paper is the first step of sharing it with their organization.
In making your vision a reality you have to create a 90-day world. Rather than be overwhelmed by the monumental task of accomplishing your vision, 90-day priorities allow you to break it down into bite-sized chunks and focus on making it stick.
Embedding the communication routines required to create clarity and align everyone in onto the same page is the key to consistently driving execution and results. To move faster, you need to pulse faster – by embedding a rhythm of weekly, monthly, quarterly & annual meetings
To reach the next level, you need the people that report to you to be able to take the ball and run with it. When roles, responsibilities and expectations are clear one of two things will happen as a result: either they will step up and take charge, or they never will. The tools you’ll discover here are going to save you a whole lot of pain.
To drive innovation and creativity, a fundamental requirement of a growth business, you have to create an environment where there is a premium on learning from “failure”, not looking at who made mistakes, rather examining, what happened, why did it go wrong, what can we learn from it and how can we take the next step forward.
I graduated University with a Property Valuation degree and went to work for one of the world’s top 500 conglomerates as a Real Estate professional.
By the time I was 28 I was working in another country, in a fast-growing property business, and was given my first significant leadership role of managing a large team.
I was excited yet apprehensive. I had trained as a property professional. But I wasn’t trained for management or leadership. I had experienced some great bosses in the early part of my career. But more often than not I had experienced some really bad ones.
And I didn’t want to mess it up. But it felt like a sink or swim moment. There wasn’t any management or leadership training on offer, so I set about learning all I could from studying and observing others.
By the time I was 35, soon after joining another young and fast-growing business which was carving out a real niche in its sector, I was leading a large team of people spread across many sites and cities.
And although I was highly competent technically like a lot of my peers and colleagues, the rapid growth of the business was becoming painful, and the business was becoming very exposed.
After much soul searching and studying I had a Eureka moment.
In a small, fast-growing entrepreneurial business there are a few key factors that have significant impact on the performance and growth of the business, mostly an ability to sell and financial factors like access to capital.
But as a business moves from an entrepreneurial to a managed growth stage the effectiveness of the organizational leadership becomes much more significant and obvious.
For a lot of Entrepreneurs, the next step is not for them – they enjoy start-ups and build ups, making stuff happen, but the complexity of managing an organization getting stuff done through lots of people is not for them, some sell up & start new ventures.
Some become stuck and remain stuck for long periods.
Others reach out for help and find ways to develop the strategies and capabilities required to scale and push through.
These are the timeless fundamentals that underpin the Summit SCALE® method for scaling and growing a business.
And that’s why I am excited for you… to see how your business and your life can change once you become a Master of Business SCALING and you have control over your exit choices - a business that you can one day sell, scale further, or even own passively.
